A very well done yarn..worth the time to watch...

This movie is replete with gore, sexual violence, nudity, and blood aplenty. It could be the depiction of a literally bloody nightmare. An overall crude production. It has no "moral of the story" except a strong counsel: you don't need it.
No artistic value, twist in the plot, costumes, or acting can compensate for what the viewer is subjected to.

First-rate acting and a setting that perfectly evokes the Victorian period. The story has a nice twist to it. I didn't find the film overly gory considering the plot.

This is a particular kind of guilty pleasure for girls who are way beyond being woke. For those few, I recommend.

Warning: Extremely graphic, gory, and disturbing scenes such as the slicing open of a prostitute with a knife. I like Bill Nighy a lot, but couldn't enjoy this movie for the unnecessarily gruesome violence. This kind of thing can be kept off stage; my imagination works well enough, thank you. A story told with gore is robbed of any suspense.

A pretty movie to watch, and while dingy it's not as dark in appearance as some movies of this style tend to be. It's a fairly straight forward murder mystery, with some gore in it but less of a thriller than some. The costumes and acting are entertaining to see.

Beautiful art direction, sets, great ensemble cast. Set in 1880's, London , England. Takes place in the poorest part of the city, which adds to the mystery of these continual murders. Nighy plays the inspector who will solve the case, and he is very good. Really good watch, but, beware. There are scenes of murder and a lot of blood. May not be suitable for kids under 8 years. Loved the whole cohesiveness of the film and the cast. Good script.

This mystery/thriller film is set in the Victorian era and follows a detective as they try to solve the case of a serial killer who has been killing violently and leaving gruesome bloody notes behind. Even though the actors did a great job at portraying their characters, things were just too boring to watch and the storyline was quite lackluster. The movie failed to create a sense of mystery or thrill and it felt like you were just watching a group of characters having various casual conversations. I would rate this movie 2.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who like serial killer movies that aren’t scary. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

An expensive looking film with decent cast, period costumes and rich theater set. Nighy played a detective who followed his nose investigating a series of gruesome murders in seedy Limehouse in Victorian London. In the process, he nosed into another suspicious death case, the husband of a music-hall star... hence he and us were led by the nose from clue to clue and suspect to suspect until the film ended. Okay then. However, some biting dialogues on social ills during Victorian times.
