Such a fantastic movie!! Safe for all ages though I would think 5+ years old would actually enjoy it. Should be shown to all kids - such a great lesson in empathy!

I was worried when I saw the trailer but the movie is actually quite fantastic and follows the book rather well. All the actors do well and I was quite pleased with Owen Wilson's performance.

Such a good good good movie! Made me cry the WHOLE way through. Kid actors were superb and Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts did amazingly. Completely different role for Julia Roberts and worked really well...very believable. Great message of the movie as well. Highly would recommend especially for kids to watch.

Jacob Tremblay's performance was solid. I liked the multicultural casting, too. And the little vignettes with Auggie in an astronaut suit or interacting with Star Wars characters was charming.

However--

The format of telling this story through different perspectives fell through around the half-way point of the movie. After we go through Miranda's side-story, there's a shift to a more omnipresent narration, but there's no indication for us to understand that when the format used to imply it thus far in the film is gone.

And Julian...he made some very bad decisions. Simply saying "I'm sorry" to Mr. Tushman doesn't give him a pass. I read The Julian Chapter, and I still think this kid's got a long way to go with learning empathy.

A thoughtful social drama about the struggles of a formerly home-schooled 5th grader with craniofacial disorder. By choosing a loving and resourceful environment for the boy (played by the 11 year old Tremblay - whose makeup earned this year's Oscar nomination), the film avoided having to deal with other prickly real-world problems. Nonetheless, an inspiring family film for all ages.

Lovely family film. Ok ending was a total cliche but soooo worth watching. Just a sweet everyday movie to sit down and enjoy esp with your children. But esp scene in principal's office shows where a lot of bullying originates....it's not with the child.
