Diamant-Cohen, a children's librarian who created the program and presents training workshops, webinars, and online courses for librarians, describes the Mother Goose on the Loose program, an early learning, book-based musical program that integrates elements of child development, storytime practices, and the "Listen, Like, Learn" method of Barbara Cass-Beggs and combines flannelboard characters, books, puppets, and library activities to focus on the whole child and developing literacy, social, and emotional skills in children from birth to 24 months. She describes how to design Mother Goose on the Loose programs, including using developmental tips, planning a program, selecting books, rhymes, songs, and felt pieces, scheduling and promoting a program, and setup and informal play time at the end; the materials needed to create programs and organize a series of programs; tools to assess, evaluate, and promote a program; and research on early literacy. She provides scripts for five consecutive Mother Goose on the Loose and programs, a song and rhyme book, suggestions for incorporating digital media, and tips for communicating with parents, library administrators, and stakeholders. This edition has been updated to include additional research, information, and tips. Annotation ©2019 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
