Whilst John Williams's absence is somewhat perceptible in this score by a lack of ambitious development (he had scheduling conflicts, and - for one thing - the excellent William Ross conducted), the magic and style strikingly established in The Philospher's Stone is at least underlined boldly.
I would have to say that even as this score is a solid one (with shining moments, I might add), it is the trough between Williams's scores for the first and third films, which are gems.
