Stained Blass: From Its Origins to the Present --- by --- Virginia Chieffo Raguin. Associated almost exclusively in the imagination of literally millions of admirers over the ages, stained glass is linked intimately with the churches of the late middle ages; of the soaring vaulting aspirations of gothic architecture and of the relationship between man And a god of light. This book, though generously illustrated with awe-inspring photographs of exemplars of this artform manage unfortunately to show only a tiny portion of what beckons to be seen. As such, it can at best be only a sampler, an artistic appetizer of stained art. But do enjoy it. The pictures are extensively captioned and the photographs are, of course, enough to make you travel to see the original.
