This is a 1986 sports film written by Angelo Pizzo and directed by David Anspaugh. Loosely based on the Milan High School team that won the 1954 state championship, it tells the story of a small-town Indiana high school basketball team that wins the state championship. Gene Hackman plays Norman Dale, a basketball coach whose checked past has led him to a last-chance position with a last-chance team. Although the townspeople nearly have him fired, Dale perseveres with a gritty demeanor and an unwavering passion for coaching. With fast-paced excitement, edge-of-your-seat suspense, breath-taking actions, this is one of the best sports movies.
