The Third Gate --- by Lincoln Child. --- WOW!!! This book has it all. Posession. Out of body experiences. Ancient Egyptian tombs. Ancient curses. Sarcophagi .The hostile environment of the African Sudd (that's a huge swamp on the Upper Nile). Hordes of flying, blood sucking insects. About the only thing missing is sex. The story line involves a group of Egyptologists in pursuit of the tomb of an ancient pharaoh. The tomb is found. Curses galore are inscribed on the outside of the tomb, curses that are repeated in a sinister voice when a member of the crew, a woman possessed, literally, by a malevolent spirit claiming to be the tomb’s malevolent inhabitant. And one after another, the curses are borne out. Sorry, but I dare not tell you how this thriller ends. For sure, it deserves being called a mystery novel. And one you can barely put down. I give this novel five stars --- but that's only because these programme won't let me award more.
