There are two main characters in this book, 12 year old Kevin Messenger who lives in present day Victoria and Angus Seaton who is 17 in 1912 at the time of the sinking of the Titanic. Angus works on one of the Halifax boats that go out to recover the bodies of the Titanic victims. As the book opens, Kevin’s father has just inherited a beach house near Halifax from the son of Angus Seaton a total stranger to the family. Odd as it seems, Kevin is determined to find out the connection between Angus Seaton and his father a century later. When Kevin’s family spends the summer in Nova Scotia, he is able to slowly piece together some information connecting his father to the sinking of the Titanic. A wooden box boarded into a hole in the basement wall, a friend’s grandmother who knew the original owner of the beach house and a ghost all help Kevin solve the mystery. There are interesting facts about the sinking of the Titanic which will appeal to readers. A good read. Reviewed By DS
