From the late 12th century to the turn of the 15th century, the Plantagenets ruled over the world's most dominant country - England. Author Dan Jones takes us on a walk through this time in history as we explore what each king added or took away from his country, his family, & his people. We are reminded that ruling this nation wasn't like what it is today. Their world is not like the one we are privileged to live in today. Rough times called for tough choices & even tougher rulers. I personally LOVE reading up on the English monarchy, past & present. I am more read in the times of the War of the Roses & the Tudor reign. This gave a nice background into what the country had gone through & where things were left when the tumultuous 15 century rang in. The narrator had a very regal, English sound, which I did enjoy. However, at times it did get a bit annoying the way he would end a sentence. He had a special intonation that he used each time he finished a thought or sentence. It got old. But the story line was interesting enough to overshadow the narration. If you enjoy English monarchy or medieval history, I highly recommend giving this book a read. Age recommendation: 14 & up (violence or war, violence of criminal punishment, higher reading level) On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 7.
