Denning's take on the Sherlock stories is delightfully silly - a marriage of Victorian mystery with magic and paranormal. The concept is a bit strained at times but it's so much fun that a few flaws are easy to forgive. Most impressive is how well Denning mimics Conan Doyle's writing style: despite the contemporary concept and humor, this reads like a Victorian novel.
