Just an ordinary day at an ordinary barbecue, what could possibly go wrong? That is exactly what couples Oliver and Erika, Sam and Clementine contemplate as they accept a last minute barbecue invitation from Erika and Oliver’s exuberant neighbours Vid and Tiffany.  Fast forward two months later and Sam, Clementine, Erika and Oliver keep asking themselves “What if we hadn’t gone?” Clementine and Erika are childhood best friends with a complicated relationship whose lives and personalities couldn’t be more different. Clementine is a cellist is married to Sam, with two adorable young daughters, a chaotic life and an “anything goes” attitude toward parenting. Erika alternatively is married to Oliver, who both are accountants with type-A personalities, fraught childhoods, and are childless. Neighbours to Erika and Oliver, Vid is someone who enjoys all that life has to offer and with his "smoking hot" wife Tiffany, loves to host gatherings in their home in Sydney. None of them, especially Vid expected their lives to change the night of the barbecue and expose secrets that had been carefully tucked away. In her new novel Truly Madly Guilty, Moriarty examines the foundation and strengths of relationships, marriages and parenthood. She writes a fast paced novel that will keep you wondering what happened the night of the barbecue to affect the lives of all who attended. This is a great read for the beach as well as for readers who enjoy solving mysteries through various point of views and timelines.   -- Brittany Meadows, Public Service Librarian
