Stars So Sweet by Tara Dairman feels like it will be the last in the adventures of 12-year old Gladys Gatsby, restaurant reviewer extraordinaire. And yet, as per usual, she is juggling a lot of pots and pans, even if her folks have restricted her to cooking a mere one night per week. To satisfy her cooking yen, she helps her classmates raise dough, via bake sales, for their various clubs.
In her first year of middle school, she has the task of helping her neighbor and friend find a truly revolting food to eat at his school, in order to make a name for himself. Her aunt Lydia comes to live with them, having been chucked out of her job in Paris. But instead of looking for new employment, she lies on the couch eating junk food and watching the television in a blue funk.
These and other obstacles are hurdled by Gladys on her way to a satisfying denouement.
