After enjoying Thao Lam’s new book “Thao,” I looked for others by the Vietnamese-Canadian author -- and discovered 2016’s wordless “Skunk on a String,” This endearing story tells of a skunk who takes a fanciful ride with his fist holding tight to the string of a helium balloon. Watching the skunk’s expressions along the course of the up-and-down, stay-away-from-me journey is amusing. And the affable skunk’s resourcefulness for staying afloat is a little bit shocking. Still, for paper lovers like me, it’s Lam’s paper collage artwork that provides the most fun – and an inspiration to tell a story by putting together my own collage of pretty paper.
