Mental Health in Middle School
Middle school can be a difficult period in one's life for countless reasons! 1 in 7 children under the age of 17 also live with a diagnosed mental or behavioral health condition; anxiety problems, behavior disorders, and depression being the most common diagnoses (CDC, 2025). The 24 books on this list feature middle schoolers of all walks of life living with both diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health challenges, and serve to demonstrate to young readers that they are not alone in their struggles. NOTE: This list contains content and/or library materials that cover mental health and wellness topics. We are not medical professionals, so please always seek the advice or care from a mental health or health care professional to find out how this topic may or may not apply to your unique situation or overall health.
